By Evaluating Your Child’s Progress, We Are Testing Our Own Abilities

A student’s performance in tests is a reflection of our own capability as a school. By assessing a student’s application to his/her work on a day-to-day basis, we periodically keep a check on how our methods are faring and necessitate improvements or changes immediately.

Other modes of assessments help us determine the capabilities of every child, so that we can personalize our teaching to better suit their needs. A student’s power of comprehension and assimilation is then assessed through appraisals, class tests, semester examinations and project work. A student’s progress in academic and other allied activities is also assessed and progress reports are sent to the parents periodically. Parents are requested to sign the report after going through it carefully.

No tests or examinations are conducted from Kindergarten to Grade II. At these levels, assessments are an ongoing part of everyday activity. However students are assessed on the basis of their worksheets/ appraisals carried out in class, based on the themes followed.

Portfolios containing worksheets with specific learning objectives are maintained for every student, and will be available with the class teacher for the parent to follow the child’s progress. Grades 3 to 12 will have 1 Unit Assessment per semester. Cyclic Tests will be conducted every week on Tuesdays for grade 10 and 12. After each semester exam, the performance of the student is analyzed and remedial classes are provided to those who require them.

Grades III to VII will be based on CCE tests with 40% weight-age Formative and 60% weight-age for Summative assessments

Examination Guidelines

Weekly Tests/ CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation)

Weekly tests are held in all cognitive subjects as per the schedule given. There will be two CCE tests per semester and four for both the semesters. The student is required to appear for all the CCE tests in order to be considered for evaluation.

The syllabi in all subjects will be divided into two semesters. Examination will be conducted at the end of the each semester. However, some basic conceptual portions of Languages, Mathematics and Science will be included (from the first semester) in the Second Semester Examination up to Grade VII. For Grade VIII to X, the syllabus is according to the CBSE Board Pattern and evaluation is based on semester examinations.

Special/ Remedial classes in academics will be organized after school hours to help low-scoring students to improve their performance in academics and be at par with the class.

The Presidency Group of Institutions has devised a common curriculum scheme from Kindergarten to Grade X. We have been extremely successful in conducting common examinations for classes V to X. A uniform syllabus completion program and a time table according to the board examination pattern are provided for all the schools. The question papers are scrutinized by subject experts on the PGI panel. In our experience, we have seen that this common examination scheme has enhanced students’ performance and boosted their confidence and morale.

PSBN is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education and follows a CBSE prescribed curriculum at all levels, starting from Grade I to Grade VIII. It strictly adheres to continuous comprehensive evaluation (CCE) advocated by CBSE.
